In our global world, English has become the official language and in Colombia the Ministry of Education through the Bilinguism Program promotes educative politics to spread the foreign languages learning, starting with English.

In order to offer a wide context to the standards reading, it is important to be clear about what the Ministry of Education understands by bilinguism, foreign language and second language.

Bilinguism refers to the different levels a person has to communicate in more than one language and one culture. These different levels depend on the context  every person moves on. So, according to the way a person uses other languages different to the mother tongue, these get the character of second or foreign language.

English is a foreign language in Colombia but the government projects to change it into a second language officially in 2019 and when students finish high school they are expected to have a B1 level of English.

Why to learn English?

Including all the opportunities you have when you speak a foreign language, English has become a very important tool for education. Here you have some reasons why you should learn it.
